Chantelle Cameron defeats Adriana Dos Santos Araujo to become WBC champion of the World in shut-out performance.

Chantelle Cameron (13 - 0) won a unanimous points decision tonight against Olympic Bronze medalist, Adriana Dos Santos Araujo (6 - 1), to become the WBC world champion.

The world title bout took place behind closed doors on the undercard of Buatsi vs Calic at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes.

The vacant WBC title, initially up for grabs for both women, could only be claimed by Cameron after Dos Santos Araujo failed to make weight. Had Cameron lost the fight, neither woman would have taken home the belt.

In what was just her thirteenth professional outing, 29-year-old Cameron looked sharp from the opening bell - landing a stiff jab and straight right hand at will - taking little in return from the 38-year-old Araujo.

While Cameron's power didn't seem to trouble her opponent in the earlier rounds, the volume and accuracy were too much for the Araujo who looked flat-footed as she followed Cameron around the ring.

To Araujo's credit, when she did land, she looked heavy-handed, and there was no questioning who was the stronger of the two, but for the most part, she was outworked and outclassed by the younger fighter in a totally one-sided competition.

Cameron showed superb conditioning over the ten-rounder, never taking a round off as she systematically broke down a tough and durable opponent in Araujo.

The decision was a unanimous one with the judges' scoring it 100-90, 100-90 and 100-90, each giving every round to Cameron.

Cameron now joins WBC super-featherweight champion, Terri Harper, as one of only two women in Great Britain to currently hold a world title - while Ireland's Katie Taylor reigns undisputed in the lightweight division.

Cameron now finds herself in an intriguing position at super-lightweight - with the WBA / The Ring belts currently vacant, and The IBF/ WBO belts belonging to tough yet beatable opponents in Mary McGee and Christina Linardatou - some Clever matchmaking here from management company MTK Global could see Cameron bidding to unify in the near future.
