British Heavyweight Joe Joyce makes short work of his opponent on returning to the ring for the first time since lock-down

Joe Joyce recorded his 11th pro win last night - hammering German fighter Michael Wallisch into submission in round 3 of his first fight in over a year.

Joyce is scheduled to fight fellow heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois on 24 October and will be glad to have shaken off some cobwebs against lesser opposition.

In typical 'Juggernaut' fashion Joyce pressed the action from the start, landing heavy combinations and allowing Wallisch little room to get settled.

After hitting the canvas late in the 2nd Wallisch was able to beat the count see out the rest of the round but in the 3rd Joyce stepped up the tempo and Wallisch looked ready to go.

With only 25 seconds gone, Wallisch took a knee for the second time after a sustained attack from Joyce that ended in a left hook to the head.

Hurt, Wallicsch showed a that he hadn't come to lie down and bravely climbed to his feet once more, only for referee Ian John-Lewis to call it off shortly after when he was dropped for a third time by a huge right hand.

Joyce put in a dominant performance but it wasn't without its flaws  - in the opening rounds he took several big right hands and you have to wonder how his chin will hold up if Dubois finds the target that easily.

Joyce however, didn't seem too concerned and was happy with his performance telling Queensberry Promotions it was "good to get back in the ring" and that it was "good to get off the ring rust".

When asked what message he thought he'd sent to Dubois he replied: "it's made him realise that he needs to really train for this fight because he's up against it".
