It was a less than ideal start for Rungvisai, with a clash of heads causing a nasty cut above the eye in round 3. Fortunately, his cornermen were able to keep the flow of blood under control, allowing Rungvisai to see out the fight and get the win.

The decision was a unanimous one with the Judges scoring it 97-94, 96-93 and 99-91.

It was a highly competitive 10 rounds with the scorecards doing an injustice to Ruenroeng who gave an excellent account of himself, showing great footwork, a tight defence and quick hands.

Rungvisai looked ragged during the first half of the fight, finding it difficult to land anything clean through Ruenroeng's guard - he was effectively outboxed by Ruenroeng who neutralised his offence with slick movement and counterpunching.

As the fight progressed Rungvisai began to show a little more urgency, upping the pressure and making it harder for Ruenroeng to execute the gameplan that had worked so well in the earlier rounds. Ruenroeng, however, fought back bravely to the final bell and will no doubt be somewhat disappointed with the wide decision.

For Rungvisai, the win keeps him in title contention and puts him one step closer to a chance at regaining the WBC super flyweight title that he lost to Juan Francisco Estrada back in April 2019.

During the post-fight interview, Rungvisai told viewers via a translator "I would like to get my title back, the WBC world super flyweight title back to Thailand", and then, addressing Estrada, said "we will meet soon, for sure".
