Campbell discusses his upcoming fight with Ryan Garcia and tells Sky Sports Boxing that he expects to stop the WBC silver champ

In an interview with Sky Sports Boxing, Olympic Gold medalist Luke 'Cool Hand' Campbell discussed his upcoming fight with rising star of the lightweight division, Ryan Garcia.

Although an official date is yet to be announced, Campbell told Sky that he expects the bout to take place in November, with Saturday the 14th being the target date.

When asked how he thinks the fight will play out, Campbell replied: "well I see me just breaking him down and stopping him".

Garcia comes into the fight with an impressive record of 20 - 0, with his last two wins coming by way of first-round knockouts. He is yet, however, to truly announce himself to the division with a win over a big name - something that beating Campbell would certainly rectify.

Campbell hasn't fought in over a year and unlike Garcia, carries three losses on his record. However, a look at the names next to the last two of those losses tells us far more about Campbell's level than does Garcia's twenty wins.

Back in 2017 Campbell went the distance and lost a split decision to Venezuelan boxing legend Jorge Linares - climbing up from the canvas after a second-round knockdown to make a close fight of it.

In his last outing, Campbell tested himself against the man considered by many to be the pound for pound best boxer in the world, Vasyl Lomachenko, and although beaten by unanimous decision, Campbell gave an excellent account of himself.

At 32 years of age and having fought at such a high level, it would be easy to think of Campbell as somewhat of a stepping stone for a young fighter like Garcia, but as Campbell correctly points out, he too should still be considered a fighter on the rise, with his losses coming only as a result of being matched ambitiously very early in his career.

Campbell's Promoter Eddie Hearn said earlier in the week that he believes Garcia's team have made a 'terrible decision' in agreeing to fight his man, and with Campbell boasting the far superior resume, Hearn may just have a point - this will be a real acid test for Garcia.
